About Us

About YAAD STAY β€’ Jamaica β€’ Community

Tourism should do more than bring people in.

It should create opportunity, preserve heritage, support local enterprise, strengthen communities and help visitors experience the Jamaica that exists beyond the resort gate. That belief is at the heart of YAAD STAY.

Why YAAD STAY Exists

A better vacation can also create a better connection.

YAAD STAY was created around a simple idea: visitors should be able to enjoy Jamaica with convenience, comfort and professional service while more of that journey connects directly to Jamaican people, local stays, small businesses, service professionals and communities.

Authentic Jamaican culture and local experience
Hospitality shaped the vision.
The Story Behind the Brand

Built from hospitality. Shaped by Jamaica.

YAAD STAY was founded by Michael Downer, a former Guild of English Professional Butler with years of experience serving travellers in Jamaica’s hospitality industry.

Working closely with guests showed him that the most memorable vacations are rarely defined by the room alone. They are defined by the details β€” the driver who knows the route, the chef who remembers a preference, the local place you would never have found on your own, the conversation, the food, the music and the feeling of being genuinely welcomed.

β€œThe best Jamaican vacation is not only about where you stay. It is about how deeply you are able to connect with the island.”

YAAD STAY brings that hospitality mindset into independent travel: villas, apartments, homestays, boutique hotels, concierge, butler service, local experiences, celebrations and personalized planning β€” all built around the guest.

What We Believe

Tourism should benefit more than the traveller.

βŒ‚
Local Stays Matter

Villas, homes, apartments and smaller Jamaican properties can be part of a strong tourism economy.

β—Ž
Local Service Matters

Drivers, chefs, butlers, guides, photographers and service professionals should have access to meaningful tourism opportunity.

✦
Cultra Matters

Food, music, language, heritage, community and everyday Jamaican life should be experienced with respect and authenticity.

βœ“
Standards Matter

Local tourism should still feel safe, professional, clean, organized and guest-ready.

β™‘
People Matter

Hospitality is personal. Preferences, concerns, comfort and the reason behind the trip should shape the service.

β†Ί
Return Matters

The goal is not one booking. It is a relationship that makes guests want to experience Jamaica again.

Why Local Tourism Matters

Jamaica welcomes the world. More of tourism’s value should stay in Jamaica.

Tourism generates enormous value for Jamaica, but a significant share of that value is still not retained within the domestic economy.

Jamaica’s Ministry of Tourism has stated that approximately 40% of tourism revenue is retained locally. In practical terms, that means roughly 60% is not retained within Jamaica.

40% Approximately retained within Jamaica YAAD STAY’s mission is to help strengthen the local share by connecting more visitor spending to Jamaican accommodation providers, drivers, chefs, guides, creatives, small businesses and communities.

A Likkle Jamaican Wisdom
β€œAnuh same day leaf drop a wata battam it a guh rahnn.”

It is not the same day that a leaf falls to the bottom of the water that it begins to rot.

The lesson is simple: success does not always come on the same day that the work is done. Keep planting, keep building and keep working. With patience, consistency and purpose, the results will come.

That is also the spirit behind YAAD STAY. Strengthening local tourism and creating more opportunities for Jamaican communities will not happen overnight. Every booking, every local driver, every Jamaican chef, every host, every creative and every community-based experience is another step toward a stronger local tourism economy.

Stay Jamaica. Live Jamaica.

Come for the vacation. Leave with a connection.

YAAD STAY helps visitors experience Jamaica with more independence, more personal service and more direct connection to the people and places that make the island what it is.
